The Kissing Booth

Hi readers of this modest blog!

Today I'm going to talk about a movie you should watch by side that special person.

As is in the title, you've knew I'm going to talk about Netflix's The Kissing Booth.

So, let's go to this!

The Kissing Booth

Elle Evans and Lee Flynn are best friends since they were born, indeed, they were born at same and same hour. To complete it, their mothers were friends as well.

When they were kids, they created several rules to protect their friendship, between them: "a friend has to always forgive the other when it offers an ice-cream"; "a friend can't date the brother of other" and the most important: "a friend can't break the previous rule".

Elle always has had a got thing for Lee's oldest brother Noah, however, she never has gone ahead with it not only because her friendship, but also because she never has thought living this love.

Everything changes, though, when the oldest Flynn brother kissed her in the kissing booth during a school charity event and she sees herself at a crossroad.

Why is it worth watching The Kissing Booth?

Attention! From now, there are spoilers, that's to say, there will be revelation about plot. So, if you don't want to know about it, stop now!

One of the first reason was the fact this movie differs cliché "friends become lovers".

At the beginning, it's possible to believe that Lee and Elle, as they are friends since they were kids, they should something more than friendship, however, soon after kissing booth scene, this is deconstructed — mainly because he starts dating another girl.

And it takes us to the second reason: no friendzone.

A friendzone happens when you begin loving your friend in the secret and because you are friends, each other, you can't pass to the next level. This doesn't happen on this movie because the protagonists are friends and that's it!

There's not much time, Hollywood released a lot of movies about it and, in the final of the story, they break this taboo and stay together.

In the lot of these works, the story is not plausible because who already has had got a thing for a friend knows how complicate is "you suffer because you are afraid to break your friendship" — and at stories everything appears so easy and happens by magic.

That has not happened on The Kissing Boot because Lee and Elle are just friend and they stay like this until the end.

The third reason involves friendship as well: "sometimes it is needed to have the courage to be happy".

Ok! This phrase was cliché, but as Elle and Lee's friendship has the main rule of "don't date the brother of each other", it's complicated for her to decide to be happy by Noah side or continues being a friend of his older brother.

One of notable movie's talk, at least for me, happens when Elle is at her birthday party and she hasn't withstood staying away of Noah, she says for her best friend: "even he is her best friend, this fact doesn't give to him the right of decided who she is in love for and if he is hers really friend, he will only want to her happiness".

Finally the fourth and last reason escapes a little bit of the story and it's about the look: in Brazil, this movie was rated for people above twelve years old, what gives to Netflix a certain freedom, doesn't become it appealing, but, as well, doesn't give to it a look like Disney's High School Musical.

An example of this freedom is the restroom scene, where Elle sparks Noah because of he has tried to say to her what she has to do. Elle, unintentionally, enters on boys restroom to take a bath and when the older friend's brother tries taking her out of there, she rises and she makes a show for the boys at the restroom. But, again, no appealing.

Cast

This time, instead than just put the name of the actors by the side of their characters, I decided to bring photos and a brief biography of them.

And I couldn't start, but by the key player Elle Evans or Joey King:

Joey King has been "Magenta" in The Flash.

Joey King is an actress that was born in July 30th, 1999 in the Los Angeles city, California state. She began to play, according to IMDb (click on here to go to the text, in English), when she was four in cereal commercial. Her first movie, released in 2006, was Grace.

She has participated of various series as The Flash, acting as Magenta character.

After her, I couldn't let to talk about Lee Flynn or Joel Courtney:

Joel Courtney has tried a vacancy in a J.J. Abrams "top-secret" adventure.

Joel Courtney is an actor that was born in January 31st, 1996 in the Monterey city, California state, but he grew up in Moscow city, Idaho state. His parents are teachers and he is the baby brother of four siblings.

According the IMDb website (click on here to go to the text, in English), the first Courtney's audition happened when he went to visit his brother in Los Angeles city — he've tried a vacancy in a J.J. Abrams' "top-secret" adventure.

Finally, but not less important, we have the reason of this fight among friends, Noah Lynn or Jacob Elordi:

Jacob Elordi has participated in movies as Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Jacob Elordi was born in July 26th, 1998 and he has participated in movies as Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Swinging Safari.

According to the Todateen website (click on here to go to the source, in Portuguese), he and Joey have known each other on the set of The Kissing Booth and they start to date. In the other words, they date as ficcion as real life.

So...

The Kissing Booth, as I said, is an excellent movie to be watched by side of who you love because, even though a love comedy, it doesn't tie itself in clichés that normally appears in this kind of movies, as well as it isn't appealing and, mainly, boring. It's one of that movies to watch at home, eating popcorn...

And... That's all people!
